DRS Land Systems is seeking a Design & Stress Analyst III or IV who will be responsible for designing, developing, analyzing, documenting and supporting FEA analyses of products, systems or subsystems. Specifically, responsible for evaluating FEA task requests, performing FEA analyses using ANSYS software and other related software tools. Must be able to identify and facilitate FEA tasks that can be outsourced to other DRS locations and to outside FEA consultants. Uses computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments. Must have the ability to work independently and to work well in a team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop, analyze, document and support FEA (or other analyses) of products, systems or subsystems.
Responsible for FE analyses and completion of assigned tasks on schedule and within budget.
Perform FE analyses and provide Design Engineers input on the design, fabrication and modification of mechanical and/or electro mechanical components, sub-systems and systems.
Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products, processes or services.
Use ANSYS and other computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.
Assignments may include Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics/Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others.
Interact as part of a larger Design Analysis community with analysts from other DRS locations, and facilitate the outsourcing of FEA tasks to other DRS locations and to FEA consultants.
Ability to work independently and regularly report progress and status.
Provide budget, cost and schedule input for analysis and design assignments.
Evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services.
Support the program design-to-cost and design for manufacture requirements.
Support the development of prototypes to retire key development risks.
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
Participate in preparation of complex and significant proposals.
Ability to review and derive applicable requirements from customer and DOD specifications.
Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
Evaluate the current FEA computing assets and recommend system requirements.
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field and a minimum of 5 years of experience. MS degree preferred.
Competent technical expertise related to engineering analyses, specifically stress analysis/FEA but optimally will include knowledge of Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics/Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others.
Recent, relevant experience with ANSYS/Mechanical, CREO (Pro/ENGINEER), and Altair Hypermesh.
A broad knowledge of engineering principles as they apply to mechanical structures, vehicles, electronic housings and dynamic analysis of mechanical systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to work in and support a team environment as well as work independently on assigned projects.
Proficient with MS Office programs.
