DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS)a multi-site operation responsible for $350 million of revenue with locations in Milwaukee, WI, Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and High Ridge, MO with an employee base of approximately 900 employees. Position Summary

This position requires mechanical, electrical assembly and cabinet wiring skills used for the assembly of power distribution and conditioning equipment. This position requires that the assembler be flexible and able to alternate between jobs as workload dictates. The assembler may work alone or in a team and is responsible for achieving allocated times for the tasks they are performing with good quality. The successful candidate will require 1 or greater years’ experience in assembly of electronic components and cabinet wiring. The candidate will be able to read and interpret wiring schematics and directly interact with engineers on technical matters and problem solving. In order to maintain this position upon hire all candidates must successfully complete the required basic training program for assembly employees in the first 20 days, followed by successfully demonstrating the required wiring and assembly skills with minimal guidance as measured in 30-60-90 day reviews.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assembly and/or wiring of electrical cabinets, including building of production sub-assemblies, using detailed work instructions and standard and specialized hand tools

  • Complete wire harness installation and final wiring of large, complex cabinets, control panels, & other electro-mechanical assemblies

  • Performs electro-mechanical assembly, disassembly and rework of various electronic products and mechanical assemblies

  • Execute in support of Key Performance Indicators:

o Quality – reduce & eliminate defects, miswires, rework, etc.

o Schedule – meeting production deadlines

o Budget – accurately completing jobs within allocated hours

  • Able to work overtime and weekends as needed

  • Ability to work independently and to prioritize next tasks when supervisor is unavailable

  • Understand and work to product documentation (blue prints, detailed drawings, procedures, schematics etc.)

  • Correctly generate detailed assembly records documenting actions taken

  • Interface with quality representatives, manufacturing engineers, and/or customer representatives to ensure the highest possible quality on product manufactured in the time allotted and/or required

  • Able to read and interpret wiring schematics

  • Interact with engineers and quality reps on technical matters and problem solving

  • Ability to work independently and to prioritize next tasks when supervisor is unavailable

  • Self-Directed completion of work assignments

  • Build first articles and engineering models with or without guidance or oversight

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams

  • Ability to impart technical knowledge and experience to others

  • Visually inspect work previously performed by others

  • Perform necessary changes, modifications, and/or repairs as directed

  • Maintain Lean standards (6S) and safe work environment

  • Access and use of electronic data mechanisms such as digital paper and electronic mail

  • Train and/or assist other employees as required

  • Perform other duties and assist in projects, as directed by supervision

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5-10 years experience

  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, skilled in cabinet wiring, understanding of wiring diagrams, demonstrated 10th grade reading and math ability

  • Ability to work independently and also contribute as a team member

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds frequently

o Basic knowledge and ability to use hand tools

o Able to follow written and oral instructions

o U.S. Citizenship required

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee requires normal manual dexterity, speech and hearing. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty-five (35) pounds, be able to stand for up to 9 hours a day and perform walking, lifting, bending, stooping and kneeling requirements. Specific vision abilities required by this job require frequent use of a computer monitor. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds frequently
