Located on the east coast of Florida in Melbourne, DRS NIS is a leading designer and manufacturer of highly engineered, technically advanced, defense electronics for U.S. and allied international military and intelligence agency applications. Products include hand-held devices, targeting scopes, night vision optics, laptop computers and vehicle-mounted systems supporting man-portable and fighting vehicle applications. The Senior Manufacturing Test Equipment Engineer - Software is involved with the design and development of manufacturing test systems for performance testing of products for product acceptance. The selected candidate will perform bottom up software development and debugging of test systems in multiple software environments, review detail designs to create test scenarios, and assist technicians in the build of the test hardware.

Primary & Essential Accountabilities

  • Technical lead responsible for technical activity and completion of assigned task on time and budget

  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support software and systems used to test products, systems or subsystems

  • Working independently, provide regular reporting of progress and status

  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develops designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable

  • Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments

  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services

  • Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required

  • Participates in preparation of complex proposals

  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel

  • Conduct and participate in peer design reviews

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in software or computer engineering or related discipline

  • 5+ years’ experience developing, integrating, and maintaining automated test software

  • 5+ years’ experience with EO/IR systems

  • Proficient in MS Office and MS Project

  • Generation of: TRD, STP, SVD, SDD, FSM and requirements traceability, detailed design, test plans and related reviews for PDR, CDR, TRR, and PRR

  • Experience developing test software for CCA functional testers, electromechanical subassembly testers, optical alignment stations, and environmental screening systems for a production environment

  • Practical experience and hands on knowledge of various test equipment architecture including GPIB, VXI, PXI, TCPIP, RS232/422/485, RS170, MIL-STD-1553, and JTAG interface

  • Experience developing a variety of applications, from simple applications to large integrated test suites with full documentation packages

  • Software development experience using Windows xx on a PC platform

  • Programming proficiency with 3-5 years of experience in languages such as NI Suite (LabVIEW, CVI, TestStand). Visual C++ and Visual Basic 6.0 is required.

  • Hands on knowledge of integrating software with COTS hardware along with designing custom software

  • US Citizenship or US Person status required
