Located on the east coast of Florida in Melbourne, DRS NIS is a leading designer and manufacturer of highly engineered, technically advanced, defense electronics for U.S. and allied international military and intelligence agency applications. Products include hand-held devices, targeting scopes, night vision optics, laptop computers and vehicle-mounted systems supporting man-portable and fighting vehicle applications. The company specializes in equipment that allows communication between broad spectrums of battlefield interfaces.
The Senior Manufacturing Test Equipment Engineer is involved with the design and development of manufacturing test systems for performance testing of products for product acceptance. The selected candidate will perform bottoms up development and debugging of test systems in multiple software environments, review detail designs to create test systems using various hardware architectures, and assist technicians in the build of the test hardware.
Primary & Essential Accountabilities
Technical lead responsible for technical activity and completion of assigned task on time and budget
Design, develop, analyze, document and support and support testing of products, systems or subsystems Working independently, provide regular reporting of progress and status
Review customer specifications and requirements, and develops designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
Participates in preparation of complex proposals
Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
Conduct and participate in peer design reviews
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
B.S. in Electrical / Computer Engineering or related technical field
Minimum of 5 years’ experience developing, integrating and maintaining automated test equipment
Minimum 5 years’ experience with EO / IR systems
Proficiency with MS Office products as well as MS Project
Generation of: TRD, requirements traceability matrix, detailed design, hardware design, hardware test plans, block diagrams, interconnect diagrams, system user manuals, test procedures and related reviews for PDR, CDR, TRR, PRR
DFT analysis of systems, subsystems and CCA’s
3-5 years’ experience in any high level language (C, C++, LabWindows)
AutoCad experience is a plus
Experience in integrating COTS hardware along with designing custom ITA’s
Experience developing CCA functional testers, electromechanical subassembly testers, optical alignment stations and environmental screening systems for production environment
Practical experience and hands on knowledge of various test equipment architecture including: GPIB, VXI, PXI, LXI, TCPIP, RS232/422/485, RS170, MIL-STD-1553, and JTAG interface
