The Leonardo DRS Land Electronics business provides C4I Network computing and integrated situational awareness, as well as state-of-the-art embedded diagnostics, vehicle power management and combat vehicle integration products and services.
Job Summary
As a Component Engineer, you will be part of the hardware engineering support team with various assignments to project teams across multiple sites in support of COTS (commercial off the shelf) components, obsolescence, and other component engineering tasks. The position will support products in Huntsville, Al, Melbourne, FL, Dallas, TX, and potentially other sites. Component Engineering is integral to our product design, manufacturing, and field support activities. Many of the products DRS’ designs and supports are rugged military electronics, and DRS has been supporting many of these products for decades
Job Responsibilities
Review Bills of Material (BOM) or obsolescence, hazardous material, and other design criteria
Provide alternate source suggestion(s) for various Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) components
Provide Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) reports
Identify End of the Life (EOL); Not recommended for New Design (NRND) components, and support resolution (s)
Analyze and develop solutions to support engineering resolution associated with obsolete components
Support Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing COTS component issues
Conduct part lifecycle analysis and enter results into Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool
Support Quality Assurance with component failures analysis
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years of experience
Must be detail oriented, possess eagerness to learn, technical aptitude, and ability to work with development and manufacturing teams
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Excel usage
Strong professionalism, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal)
Ability to work individually and in a collaborative team environment
Awareness of obsolescence tools like Silcon expert, HIS, parts plus or a similar BOM/part tracking tool
Supply Chain experience including work with external vendors is a plus
Prior experience with military, high-reality, or aerospace components and processes
Government Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) experience is a plus
Experience with PLM software such as Empower (Omnify) and/or PDM-link a plus
Position may require domestic travel (5%)
