Job Title: Senior Manager Digital, Firmware Engineering
Responsible for leading and managing a team of Digital and Firmware Engineers supporting Airborne and Intelligence Systems business unit in development and qualification of high quality signal intercept equipment. The Sr. Manager, Digital Engineering reports directly to the Sr. Director of Engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Lead and manage a team of Digital and Firmware Engineers engaged in system, digital board level and FPGA configuration item requirements development, system, digital board level and FPGA configuration item design and analysis, system interface design and control, product integration, verification and validation, and product sustainment and support.
Responsible for the technical excellence and quality of digital and firmware products produced by the Digital Engineering organization.
Perform as Firmware Engineering subject matter expert with regard to Firmware Product Lifecycle processes and ensure Engineering best practices are implemented. Working with Engineering leaders at other Leonardo DRS sites, continually assess adequacy of enterprise Firmware Engineering processes and resulting products and continually improve those processes consistent with business objectives.
Ensure good risk management principles are applied to product development activities.
Work closely with project managers, project engineers and project firmware leads to ensure Digital and firmware Engineering activities are appropriately scheduled and budgeted into project plans, that skilled resources are assigned and that those activities are successfully executed per plan.
Personally provide Firmware Engineering technical support to project teams as necessary.
Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure that quality control is being performed on all Firmware Engineering activities and products.
Work closely with Configuration Management to ensure good firmware baseline control and effective change management is performed on all Firmware Engineering activities and products.
Promote firmware product and tools reuse and commonality across the enterprise. Ensure lessons learned are applied to software products and software product lifecycle activities.
Define position requirements, interview and hire Digital and Firmware Engineering personnel.
Organize Firmware Engineering staff and create work assignments that achieve both project objectives and provide for personnel development.
Provide training and career development to Firmware Engineers. Train others in Firmware Engineering and Product Lifecycle skills, processes and procedures.
Provide a comprehensive and timely review of each Firmware Engineering team members’ performance.
Assist the Sr. Director of Engineering with workforce planning and management of engineering discretionary budgets and overhead budgets.
Required Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is required. Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is preferred.
Firmware/FPGA Engineering organizational leadership and management experience is required.
Minimum 7+ years engineering experience encompassing system, digital and firmware configuration item requirements development, digital and firmware architecture design and development, code analysis, development and simulation, hardware/firmware and software integration, and product verification and validation is required.
Experience with software/firmware/hardware integration is required.
Experience with development in a CMMI for Development Level 3 or higher process environment is required.
Experience with automated requirements management, software/firmware problem reporting and version control tools is required. Specific experience with DOORS, Subversion, JIRA and GIT is preferred.
Experience developing complex firmware solutions using VHDL or Verilog high-level programming languages is required.
Experience using VHDL on Xilinx Virtex or Kintex FPGA families is preferred.
Modelsim / Mentor Graphics board design – UVM knowledge a plus
Experience with simulation, timing analysis and synthesis tools is required
Experience with board level layout and signal integrity tools and analysis is required
Knowledge of 10GbE, Ethernet and layer 1, 2, 3 protocols is preferred
Experience leading product development employing Agile standards and methodologies is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both written and oral.
Working knowledge of MS Office products.
