/DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS)/a multi-site operation responsible for $350 million of revenue with locations in Milwaukee, WI, Bridgeport & Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and High Ridge, MO with an employee base of approximately 900 employees. NPS is structured into four Lines of Business: Surface, Submarines, Nuclear Instrumentation and Controls and Marlo Coil focusing on supporting the power and propulsion needs of the U.S. Navy. The successful candidate will gain experience in the mechanical design and manufacturability of large rotating power equipment and specific components. This position will involve working with engineers and Shop Floor personnel on both military and industrial equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbine generator sets, permanent magnet motors for industrial and ship propulsion applications and other large power equipment. This position will work with the process design, tooling development and process documentation for New Product Development and Continuous Improvement changes.Co-op Term: January - May 2019, with potential to run through the summer.
Basic Qualifications: Sophomore, Junior or Senior Mechanical Engineering Technology / CAD Drafting Design student / Manufacturing Engineering / Operations or related discipline.
Familiarity with ASME Y14 Standards, tolerancing, etc.
GPA 2.75 or higher
Working knowledge of MS Office
Self-starter and independent working attributes are essential
Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Interest in developing design skills with large power equipment
