/DRS Naval Power Systems/(NPS) provides engineering and manufacturing services for Naval and commercial machinery systems. This includes the design and fabrication of advanced electric machinery including high performance torque/power dense permanent magnet motors, generators and associated power electronics, large rotating machinery, industrial turbine technology, packaged power and propulsion systems, mechanical equipment modeling and naval machinery inspection.

Position Summary

DRS NPS has an immediate need for a Manager Quality Systems and Continuous Improvement (CI). This individual will develop, maintain and support quality systems and lead the implementation of the CI process to ensure products and services meet contract, purchase order specification and drawing requirements for large rotating power equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbine generator sets, permanent magnet motors for industrial and ship propulsion applications and other large power equipment at our Fitchburg, MA location.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for leading quality system and continuous improvement development and supporting product quality improvements.

  • Provides ongoing quality system support to include performing internal audits, ensuring implementation of root cause / corrective actions

  • Leads product quality improvement teams, Material Review Boards, Corrective Actions Board and participates in Failure Review Teams

  • Analyzes and executes projects independently

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer, as required

  • Leads cross-functional teams in defining and scoping charters for continuous improvement projects

  • Responsible for communicating and using the Lean and Six Sigma tools, coaches, and mentors cross-functional teams and other personnel in continuous improvement and problem solving methodologies

  • Considers financial impacts of quality process controls and inspections

  • Attends appropriate customer, business or Program meetings

  • Prepares quality engineering reports and recommendations

  • Monitors and mentors junior Quality Engineers

  • Provides regular reporting of progress and status

  • Completion of assigned tasks on time while meeting all technical requirements

  • Manages/Leads the work of others as assigned

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years of appropriate industry quality experience

  • Proficient with ISO Standards, 6 Sigma tools, Statistics

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, writing and computer skills

  • Ability to define problems and drive to root cause and effective corrective action

  • Audit experience on ISO 9001 or AS9100 standards

  • US citizen required

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  • ASQ CQE certification

  • Black Belt certification

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance required

  • DoD experience preferred
