Position Summary

This individual will lead and manage the Image Processing and Analysis team of DRS’ Electro Optics and Infrared Systems (EOIS) division. In this role, you will interface with some of the most respected scientists and engineers in the industry to continue in the pursuit of technical excellence and market dominance. Strong background in image processing, algorithm development, analysis, and functional management are required. This individual will work closely with customers, engineering leadership and Line-of-Business (LOB) leadership to define requirements, determine priorities, and oversee detailed algorithm design, implementation, and analysis. This is a technical leadership position that requires extensive understanding of image processing, algorithm development, and system requirements.

Experience implementing and deploying embedded, real-time, image processing is required. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in implementation of image processing pipelines using modern System-on-chip (SOC) processors such as NXP iMX8, Xilinx Zynq, Qualcomm Snapdragon, or Nvidia Jetson. Experience in implementation and deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technology is highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, manage, and direct the overall activities of the team

  • Coordinate the creation, development, design, and improvement of image processing algorithms and implementations.

  • Communicate directly with the technical customer community to establish requirements and convey project status

  • Analyze designs as necessary to ensure compliance with performance, cost, schedule, and risk objectives

  • Work with technical leaders across the organization to develop product roadmaps and define strategy

  • Work with Line of Business leadership and program teams to plan resources needs and manage staffing to accommodate those needs

  • Monitor team activities to ensure compliance with development processes and quality standards

  • Participate in the preparation of proposals, including generation of engineering Basis of Estimates

  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

  • Actively support pursuit of new business by developing and presenting new concepts, technologies or applications

  • Develop trusted engineering contacts with the customer

  • Provide mentoring and career counseling to engineering staff as required

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 7+ years of experience

  • Experience developing and deploying real-time image processing systems

  • Experience developing and deploying embedded products utilizing modern System-on-Chip

  • Demonstrated experience with complex image processing algorithms

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to execute large group and customer presentations

  • Demonstrated proficiency recruiting technical talent and building efficient development teams

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office tools, including the use of Excel, Project, and PowerPoint to organize complex data for communication and analysis

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of infrared detector products, including Readout Integrated Circuits, Focal Plane Array Technologies, camera integration and calibration techniques

  • Experience with infrared imaging products

  • Experience developing and deploying embedded AI/ML systems

  • Experience executing functional verification and simulation

  • Experience leading multi-discipline technical teams to solve complex problems and achieve results

  • Experience working directly with government customers on development and/or production contracts

  • Ability to solve complex problems

  • Ability to meet aggressive timelines

  • Ability to decipher highly technical data and make sound decisions

  • Ability to multi-task in an evolving project environment

  • Ability to analyze data in Mathcad, MATLAB, or similar tools

  • Ability to obtain or currently possess Secret security clearance
